1936 Ford 3 Window

1936 was not a particularly good year for FOMOCO as they went from first to third place in sales, behind both GMC and Chrysler. Ford produced 930,778 automobiles in 1936, but only 21,446 of those were the 3-window coupe. Since the car was so popular for racing in its time, plus its later popularity for “hot rodding", there is no telling how many, or how few original cars such as this example, remain today. By 1932, Ford had decided the Model-A couldn't continue for 15 years like the Model-T had, so in the spring of 1932, the U-8 was born. This flathead U8 engine remained basically the same from its introduction, through the last year of production in 1953, in spite of its inherent cooling problems and poor breathing characteristics. It developed 85 blazing HP and 148 pounds of torque @2288 RPM, making it very popular during its twenty-one years of production and beyond. This particular model sold for about $640 when new, which included $25 (cheap) for the rumble seat, and $44 (not cheap and no CD player) for the radio. On a clear night, you can still hear episodes of Amos and Andy and The Shadow! The only modifications that have been made to this original 1656 pound car, are the dual exhaust system and the change from mechanical brakes to hydraulics, taken from a technologically advanced 1939 Ford. The color is gun-metal gray with bright poppy-red pin striping; both correct for the year and model. Regrettably, this was the final year from Ford for the pheaton, the roadster and the three window coupe. This extremely well cared for example has been in the same collection for the past 18 years!
